I'd have put a montage of the death/re-spawns in (which is the demonstrative playing out of the "die" & "begin again" THEME). Without getting killed in the escape effort, (at lest ONCE), and being reset... Half the "sense" to be made of the opening cinematics, and all of the analogies and allusions to game-play mechanics are cut out. The "story" has sufficient nonsensicality to it even with the die-respawn (reincarnate) cycles left in, or at least represented adequately.

it feels weird, the sequence of events in these cutscenes. the first two, everyone seems remorseful, beating themselves up, "if only i had done something different", with seemingly soothing responses, like they actually were trying to move on and be better. but then after the 3rd cutscene, they just seem to be having a pity party. not sure what the story is supposed to be exactly, to be entirely honest. they still dont seem to get along with each other??

The worst thing about the Holdfasts is that they're still assholes, and will always be assholes. Yonta would do exactly the same thing again if she had the chance. Quinn still puts himself in a position of authority. Cavalero is still Quinn's thug, and Hombask doesn't care about anything. They died pointlessly due to Yonta's fuckup, became immortal, and patted themselves on the back for being so heroic. And now, because they're all Vendors, they're going to stick around forever.
